What to Look For - DVD Rental Services
Using
an online DVD rental service is the perfect way watch the movies
you want with no worry of due dates, late fee's, or travel to
the video store.
But what factors make for the best DVD rental
service? We help you work through the confusion to focus on the main
benefits that really matter.
DVD Rental Service - A look
Inside:
- Movie Titles - Look for services
that offer as wide a selection of titles as possible. Several small
niche competitors offer cheap plans but have a very limited selection.
You'll want one that has at least 60,000 titles to keep your available
inventory as broad as possible.
- Time to Delivery - Some smaller
services have a limited number of distribution centers. This can
significantly impact time to receive and process your return postage movies
before they ship out another title. Its another reason to stick to the
larger plans.
- Pricing & Flexibility - The largest
plans offer a variety of price points to help you budget your needs.
We recommend you avoid the 'limited' plans that cap the number of rentals
you can have in a given month. Instead go with one of the unlimited
plans - even if you can only go with the 1 or 2 movie at a time plan.
- Added Services - Often overlooked
is the bonus services you can find at some of the largest DVD rental plans.
Services include member reviews, community recommendations and movie
critiques, and streaming movie trailers. This not only helps you track
the titles you've already watched, but it follows the hugely successful
Amazon model of allowing members to post reviews and comments - its also a
great way to find other titles you may have never heard of from other
members. Its one of the fringe benefits that help make an online DVD
rental service so great.
- Flex Plans - Some plans give you
the ability to switch frequently between plans. Its a nice benefit -
especially if you're in the 3 or 4 DVD at a time plan and due to work,
family, or travel need to downgrade to a smaller out at a time plan but
don't want to lose your rental history or queue.
- Cancellation Clauses - Be sure your
plan doesn't lock you in to long term commitments. Most plans today
offer the ability to cancel within 30 days, but there are still a few old
holdovers that have stuck with the longer plan commitments of 2-3 months.
If you prepaid for a plan for a longer term (up to 1 year in some cases) you
may not be able to get any funds returned - its the tradeoff for the deep up
front discount.
